AGEING INNOVATION HUB
Ageing, reimagined.
Advancing innovation in technology, housing, public space and community systems for wellbeing as people age.
We advance interdisciplinary innovation across ageing in place, housing, the built environment, technology, and community wellbeing. Through funded research, cross-sector collaboration, and policy engagement, we generate evidence and partnerships that support more inclusive futures for ageing societies.

About the Hub
The Ageing Innovation Hub is an interdisciplinary academic platform focused on advancing research and collaboration for ageing societies. Its work connects built environment research, housing studies, technology and design innovation, policy development, and community wellbeing.
The Hub's research is supported by nationally competitive funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC), including projects funded through the ARC Future Fellowship and Discovery Project schemes. This funding underpins our work on ageing in place, supportive built environments, and innovation for older people's wellbeing.
We aim to support a future where ageing is not understood only as a challenge, but also as an opportunity to rethink how communities, environments, and systems can become more inclusive, adaptive, and supportive across the life course.
Why Ageing Innovation Matters
Advancing innovation across research, industry, and policy.
Research
Industry Collaboration
Policy Engagement
Population ageing is one of the defining transformations of our century — reshaping how we design, build, govern, and live. Yet most of the systems we rely on, from housing and cities to technologies, services, and care models, were not built with longer lives in mind.
Meeting this moment requires innovation across disciplines and sectors. The Hub advances ageing innovation by connecting research, industry, and policy — generating the evidence, partnerships, and frameworks needed for more inclusive futures across the life course.
Research for Ageing Societies
Our work spans four interconnected areas — generating evidence and innovation that supports more inclusive futures across the life course.
Technology for Active Ageing
Research on assistive technologies, smart home systems, and digital platforms that help older people live independently, stay connected, and access care within their own homes and communities.
Age-friendly Cities and Communities
Investigation into how neighbourhoods, public spaces, and local services can be designed to support active participation, social inclusion, and wellbeing across the life course.
Built Environment Innovation
Research on housing design, retrofitting, and the built infrastructure that shapes safety, accessibility, and quality of life for ageing populations.
Research Training and Collaboration
A growing platform for PhD research, academic exchange, industry partnership, and community-engaged knowledge development.
